Ex-Chiefs Star Spotted at SuperSport Training Grounds
Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Eric “Tower” Mathoho may have found himself a new club just less than two months after leaving Naturena.
For the past 11 years, Mathoho plied his trade at Amakhosi, helping them win two Premier Soccer League titles. However, he decided not to renew his contract in May after only making a single one-minute appearance during the 2022/23 season.
Mathoho is one of several high-profile players who have departed from Chiefs in recent years, including the likes of Siyabonga Ngezana, Cole Alexander and Khama Billiat among others.
Now, according to the latest reports, the 33-year-old has been spotted training with SuperSport United.
Per one outlet, Mathoho “hopes to join the Tshwane giants”, and that “he was part of the Matsatsantsa team that faced Pretoria Callies in a pre-season match that took place on [Wednesday, 12 July].”
What’s more, SuperSport’s current coach is Gavin Hunt, who previously coached Chiefs. Under Hunt’s coachmanship, Mathoho saw regular playing time at Naturena.
Having already acquired three new players – Phathutshedzo Nange, Siphesihle Ndlovu and Ronald Pfumbidzai – Hunt may do well to strengthen SuperSport’s defence by signing Mathoho to a permanent deal.
